About the Art: Hearth & Home

Update 2017/05/21: Changed post title from “New Art: Hearth & Home” to “About the Art: Hearth & Home”

New artwork! This is Hearth & Home.

Unlike my last house Soulprint, Happy Home, this one really doesn’t have some far-reaching important message behind it. That being said, I don’t think it needs it. Sometimes art can just be cool. {:

I made bookmarks for Holiday Spirit last year of clouds floating in a colorful sky. One bookmark had mostly blues for the sky color, to indicate daytime, and the other had yellows and oranges and purples to indicate dusk. And the clouds had a certain style to them that I liked and I wanted to do that again. Then I thought about Happy Home, and the smoke coming out of the chimney, and I thought that would be fun to draw again, just BIGGER, and it would be a great way to expand on the idea behind the clouds.

Instead of muddying up the whole thing by Soulprinting the house also, I colored that in with solid black. I think it gives the whole piece balance and really showcases the smoke coming from the chimney, which was my focus to begin with.

So, there you have it, the story behind Hearth & Home. Nothing really heavy or “big ideas.” Just coolness and pretty, swirly smoke. {:
