About the Artist

Born in Virginia, Whitney was fascinated from childhood by the creatures that live there. She spent her summers walking through the woods near her house, using field guides to identify the plants and animals she found living there.  She spent hours gazing into her microscope, enthralled by the little world held within a single drop of fresh water, sketching the tiny creatures she found there. During the cool winters, she whiled away many hours drawing and crafting, honing her artistic skills.

Being entirely self-taught, she developed her own style – in art and in photography – that makes us stop and think, gazing – a lost art. Her artworks are small worlds within themselves, filled with a great amount of detail, reminiscent of those she viewed under her microscope.

Whitney now lives on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia with her husband and their two Maine coon cats.
